BOOK COVER DESIGN
Book Covers Designed to Be Picked Up
Readers judge a book by its cover in about two seconds — most of them on a screen, at thumbnail size, scrolling past dozens of alternatives. A cover’s job in that moment is precise: signal the genre instantly, promise the right emotional experience, and look unmistakably professional. Hoggard Publishers’ cover designers do exactly that, crafting covers that speak your genre’s visual language while standing apart within it — designed for the Amazon thumbnail first and gorgeous on the printed shelf. Your writing deserves a cover that opens doors instead of closing them.
A Cover Is a Promise — Make the Right One
Genre readers navigate by visual convention. A romance reader recognises romance typography before reading a word; a thriller buyer expects a certain palette and tension; a business reader trusts a particular cleanliness. These conventions aren’t constraints on creativity — they’re the language your cover must speak to be understood. A beautiful cover in the wrong visual language quietly tells the right readers ‘this isn’t for you’, and no marketing spend can shout over that.
Our design process therefore starts with the market, not the mood board: the bestsellers in your exact niche, the conventions they share, and the space within those conventions where your book can look distinct. From that brief, your designer develops concepts — typography-led, illustrated or photographic as your genre demands — and refines your chosen direction through structured revision rounds until it’s right.
The deliverables are complete and yours: eBook covers sized for every platform, full print wraps (front, spine and back, calculated to your exact page count and trim size), 3D mockups for your marketing, and the layered source files. When your book needs a matching series look later, the foundation is already built.

Cover Design — Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a book cover design cost?
It depends on the treatment — a typographic eBook cover costs less than a fully illustrated print wrap. After a short brief we quote a fixed price covering concepts, revisions and all final formats, agreed before design begins.
How many concepts and revisions do I get?
Our standard package includes multiple initial concept directions and structured revision rounds on your chosen one — enough, in practice, for almost every project. If you want to explore further, additional rounds are available at a simple fixed rate rather than hidden fees.
Do you design both eBook and print covers?
Yes — and ideally together. The eBook cover is the front; the print edition adds spine and back, calculated to your exact page count, trim size and paper. Designing them as one project keeps every edition consistent.
Can you match my existing series style?
Yes. Series work is a speciality — whether extending an existing look to new titles or designing book one with a series system in mind (consistent typography, layout grid and motif) so future covers slot in seamlessly.
Will I own the rights to my cover?
Yes. On final payment, full rights to the finished design transfer to you, and we deliver the layered source files. Licensed elements such as stock imagery come with the appropriate commercial licences documented.
What if I already have cover artwork or a specific idea?
Bring it. We regularly build finished covers around an author’s commissioned illustration or a firm concept — and we’ll also tell you honestly if an idea works against your genre’s conventions, before you spend on it.
