CHILDREN’S BOOK WRITING
Age-Perfect Stories with Rhythm and Heart
Writing for children is deceptively hard. Every word has to earn its place, the reading level must fit the reader exactly, and the whole thing has to sing when a parent reads it aloud for the tenth time. If you have a wonderful idea — a character, a lesson, a memory you want to give a child — but the words aren’t coming, Hoggard Publishers can help. Our children’s writers turn your idea into a finished manuscript that’s perfectly pitched for its age, a joy to read aloud, and unmistakably yours.
Every Word Counts — Literally
In a picture book of five hundred words, there is nowhere to hide. Adult writers routinely underestimate the craft: children’s stories demand extreme economy, a vocabulary tuned to the exact reading stage, a structure a young mind can hold, and an ending that satisfies without preaching. A misjudged word count or reading level doesn’t just weaken a children’s book — it sends it to the wrong readers entirely.
Then there is the sound. Children’s books live out loud, read at bedtime again and again, so rhythm, repetition and readability matter as much as plot. Text that scans beautifully invites the next reading; clumsy meter (especially in rhyme, which is far harder to do well than it looks) makes even devoted parents wince by the third night. Our writers hear the book as they write it, and test it the way it will actually be used — aloud.
Above all, the story stays yours. We work from your idea, your values and your voice — through interviews and drafts you shape at every stage — whether you want a gentle bedtime tale, a funny read-aloud, a story that carries a lesson without lecturing, or a chapter book for a newly independent reader. You keep 100% of the rights to the finished manuscript and the characters within it.

Children’s Book Writing — Frequently Asked Questions
I have an idea but I’m not a writer — can you still help?
That’s exactly who this service is for. Many wonderful children’s books begin as an idea, a character or a memory a parent or grandparent wants to give a child. We interview you, shape the story with you, and write it — so your idea becomes a finished book without you needing to be a writer.
Will the book still be mine if you write it?
Yes — entirely. This is ghostwriting: you provide the idea and direction, approve every stage, keep 100% of the rights to the manuscript and characters, and take the author credit. Our involvement stays confidential.
Can you write a rhyming children’s book?
Yes, and we take it seriously. Good rhyme must scan perfectly and never force a word to fit — it is far harder than it appears, and clumsy rhyme is the most common flaw in children’s manuscripts. If rhyme suits your story we’ll craft it properly; if it doesn’t, we’ll say so honestly.
How do you decide the right age level?
We start from the reader you have in mind, then match the conventions — board books and picture books for the youngest, early readers with controlled vocabulary for new decoders, chapter books for confident readers. Age band drives word count, vocabulary and structure, so we confirm it before writing.
Does the writing service include illustrations?
Writing produces the manuscript; illustration is a separate craft we also offer. Many authors take the finished text straight into our illustration and publishing services, so the whole book is made under one roof — but you’re free to use the manuscript however you wish.
How much does it cost to have a children’s book written?
It depends on length and complexity — a short picture-book text differs greatly from a chapter book. After a free consultation you’ll receive a fixed quote covering concept development, drafting and revisions, agreed before any writing begins.
